Worth the Drive: Things to Do Around North Texas This Weekend

Still deciding what to do this weekend?
I did a little digging and found a little bit of everything — from the circus in Dallas and classic country in Corsicana to wine on a Longhorn ranch.
And because it is still very much August in Texas, I threw in a great indoor option for the kids, too.
Here are a few things worth the drive this weekend.
🎪 TAKE THE KIDS: Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey
Dallas | Friday–Sunday
The Greatest Show on Earth is in Dallas this weekend at American Airlines Center, with acrobatics, stunts, comedy and plenty of spectacle.
There are multiple performances throughout the weekend, making this one pretty easy to work into your plans.
Why it made my list: It's indoors, family-friendly and the circus coming to town still feels like an event.
🎶 STAY CLOSE TO HOME: The Bellamy Brothers
Corsicana | Saturday Night
Here's a good one that doesn't require a drive into Dallas.
The Bellamy Brothers are performing Saturday night at the historic Palace Theatre in downtown Corsicana.
Grab dinner downtown beforehand and make a night of it.
Why it made my list: Classic country in one of Corsicana's historic venues? Yes, please.
🍷 WINE + LONGHORNS: Triple N Ranch Winery
Trinidad | Friday–Sunday
Triple N Ranch Winery is one of those places that feels like you've gone somewhere without actually going very far.
Spend an afternoon enjoying wine, food, live music and views of the Longhorns on this working ranch. Friday also brings Music Bingo.
Why it made my list: Wine, pizza, live music and Texas Longhorns. That's a pretty solid weekend combination.
🌶️ SOMETHING EASY: Pepper Weekend
Dallas Farmers Market | Saturday & Sunday
Want something casual?
Head to the Dallas Farmers Market for Pepper Weekend at The Shed. Browse the market, grab something to eat and see just how brave you really are when it comes to peppers. 🌶️
Why it made my list: No elaborate plan required. Show up hungry and wander.
🌙 DATE-NIGHT IDEA: Twilight Nights
Dallas Arboretum | Friday–Sunday
This might be the most August-in-Texas-friendly date-night idea on the list.
The Dallas Arboretum stays open late for Twilight Nights, giving you a chance to enjoy the gardens, music, cocktails and bites after the worst heat of the day has passed.
Why it made my list: White Rock Lake + sunset + not walking around a garden at 2 p.m. in August. Sold.
✈️ SAVE THIS ONE: Frontiers of Flight Museum
Dallas Love Field | Anytime
This one isn't just for this weekend. It's one to keep in your back pocket when you need a fun indoor activity with kids.
The Frontiers of Flight Museum at Dallas Love Field is filled with aircraft, aviation and space exhibits, and kids can watch planes taking off and landing at Love Field.
There's also a newer Hindenburg: The Flying Hotel exhibit to explore.
Why I added it: It's educational, fun and — perhaps most importantly in August — air-conditioned. 😂
