Worth the Drive: Things to Do Around North Texas This Weekend
October 9–11, 2026
October in North Texas is showing off a little this weekend! 🍂
We've got hometown traditions, a little shopping, Texas wine, college football and a Sunday brunch that might just convince you to get out of your pajamas.
And if you're wondering how I found time to round all this up, let's just say I've been multitasking. Apparently, mowing the lawn in my Mean Girls "Cool Mom" Halloween costume counts as getting things done. 😂
So, I've done the digging. Now you just have to decide where you're going!
🐯 FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Corsicana Homecoming
Corsicana | Friday, October 9
There's just something about homecoming in a Texas town.
The parade kicks off the celebration Thursday night, but Friday is all about the Tigers, the homecoming festivities, and those Friday night lights!
Whether you're cheering from the stands, catching up with old friends or just soaking up a little hometown spirit, it's one of those traditions that never gets old.
Why it made my list: Because few things say fall in Texas quite like homecoming and high school football. 🏈
🥂 SIP & SHOP: Mimosas at the Market
Downtown Corsicana | Saturday, October 10
Shopping and mimosas? Well, somebody had to put those two things together. 😂
Head downtown for Mimosas at the Market, where participating local businesses welcome shoppers for a little sipping, browsing and discovering what's new.
It's a great excuse to pop into those shops you've been meaning to visit, find something fun for fall and support our local businesses while you're at it.
Grab a friend, take your time and make a morning of it.
Why it made my list: Supporting local businesses while enjoying a mimosa sounds like a pretty productive Saturday to me.
🍷 GIRLS' DAY OR DATE NIGHT: Ladies of Country at Triple N Ranch Winery
Trinidad / Cedar Creek Lake | Saturday, October 10 | 1–8:15 PM
Now THIS sounds like a good time!
Triple N Ranch Winery is hosting a Ladies of Country celebration with shopping, Texas wine, food and live music inspired by some of country music's favorite women.
Think Dolly Parton, Miranda Lambert, Ella Langley and more.
Becky Middleton & Band takes the stage at 5:30 PM, and the afternoon includes local vendors, fall photo opportunities and the chance to see the ranch's Texas Longhorns.
General admission is listed at $15, with a discount for wine club members.
Why it made my list: Wine, shopping, country music and Longhorns? That's a pretty Texas way to spend a Saturday. 🤠
🏈 BIG TEXAS WEEKEND: Texas vs. OU + The State Fair
Cotton Bowl, Dallas | Saturday, October 10 | 2:30 PM
If you've lived in Texas very long, you already know this isn't just another football game.
It's TEXAS–OU weekend!
Burnt orange and crimson take over Dallas as the Longhorns and Sooners meet at the Cotton Bowl during the State Fair of Texas.
And you don't necessarily need a game ticket to enjoy the atmosphere.
There's fair food, people-watching, football excitement and enough school spirit to last until next October.
Whether you're cheering for Texas, Oklahoma or just showing up for a Fletcher's corny dog, this is one of those weekends that's uniquely Dallas.
Why it made my list: Some traditions are bigger than the game itself. And Texas–OU weekend is definitely one of them.
Expect big crowds and plan parking and transportation ahead.
🌿 SUNDAY BRUNCH: Fern in the Wild
Ennis | Sunday, October 11 | Brunch 10 AM–3 PM
After all that Saturday excitement, Sunday calls for something a little more relaxed.
And Fern in the Wild in Ennis is a pretty good place to start.
Sleep in, grab a friend or your favorite brunch date, and enjoy a leisurely meal. Then take a little time to browse the shop.
It's one of those places where brunch can turn into a whole afternoon without anybody having to make a complicated plan.
Why it made my list: Good food, a pretty setting and a little shopping afterward. Sometimes that's all the Sunday plan you need.
❤️ If I Had to Pick…
This week I'm going with Triple N Ranch Winery! 🍷
I mean, Dolly, Miranda, Ella, a little shopping, a glass of wine, and Texas Longhorns? Somebody clearly understands what makes a good Saturday. 😂
But I will say, homecoming in Corsicana is awfully special, too.
And if your weekend plans involve watching Texas–OU from the comfort of your own couch, I won't judge. Just make sure there's something good to eat!
Whatever you choose, I hope you find a little time to get out, explore, and enjoy this corner of Texas we call home.
Because sometimes the best memories are just a short drive away.
See you out there!
